| | Style 3b - Slides only style Lecturers who will be presenting
powerpoint slides can use the whiteboard to add annotations during the presentation. This is suggestively
useful as the interaction with the slides can make the session more
interactive (especially for answering questions). The presenter is able to use the mimio device on the whiteboard (with the presentation overlayed) and make annotations directly into powerpoint. This will be slower due to the fullscreen polling of the VNC server.
AMX
Control Panel
- For local feedback. From the icons
on the top part of panel, choose
"Laptop". Choose the external display that the slides would be shown on
e.g. "Diagonal".
Mac
Mini (GridLect)
- Display settings:
- Right click on desktop and select "Screen
resolution"
- Ensure
that the Duplicating displays is used.
- TightVNC
- If the machine has been rebooted the
server
must be initialised manually. From start menu navigate and choose
"Launch Tight VNC server".
- An icon in the taskbar should appear
to indicate it is running (may have to click little arrow next to time).
- Change the polling behaviour to
full screen:
- Right click on the "V" icon
and goto "Properties"
- Select the "Hooks" tab
- Check the box "Poll full
screen"
- Use Polling cycle "300"
- To check if the
server is running use another machine to connect. The IP of gridlect is
gridlect.maths.usyd.edu.au or 129.78.68.239.
Viewonly password is "mathconf"
- Microsoft Powerpoint 2007
- The
presenter will be providing a
powerpoint presentation file.
- Open the file in powerpoint
- From the menu bar click on the Slideshow tab
- Start the
presentation
- Right click on the screen and select "Pointer Options"
- Choose a pen type and color
- The presenter can advance slides using right click from the pen to goto next slide.
Whiteboard PC (gridwbrd)
- Important::Close all windows
- TightVNC
- An icon in the taskbar should
appear
to indicate it is running (may have to click little arrow next to time).
- Change the polling
behaviour to
full screen:
- Right click on
the "V" icon
and goto "Properties"
- Select
the "Hooks" tab
- Check
the box "Poll full
screen"
- Use Polling
cycle "300"
- Launch VNC windows
- Click on the "Tt" icon in the quick launch taskbar. (This is the
automatic setup of launching VNC clients).
- IF it fails, perform
the following:
- An icon on desktop is a
saved VNC connection that will have saved settings to view the gridlect
PC as viewonly and CoRRE encoding.
- Open one instance and set
this to full screen.
- To get out of the full screen mode the
escape key can be used, but this can only be done via VNC client to this
PC.
- Exit this mode AFTER the lecture using the
automated script from the AG machine called: "gridwbrd_shutdown.bat"
Access
Grid PC (gridroom)
- Launch the Access Grid client on main
gridroom
PC.
- Join the session "SMS USydney" and always enable "Talk"
from RAT window
- Announce the lecture being delivered and
the VNC session details for the whiteboard being
"gridwbrd.maths.usyd.edu.au" password "mathconf"
- After more
participents enter, ensure they are able to speak, listen and see the
presenter (or you). Use Access Grid RAT controls to adjust microphone,
speaker for individual institutions first versus the global setting.
AFTER
the session - AG machine
- On Desktop
run: "gridwbrd_shutdown.bat"
- Shutdown access grid
- Mac
mini
- When the presentation ends a question will ask about
keeping annotation. Click "keep".
- Save the presentation
file.
- Export the pdf with annotation
- Click the
(top left) office start button
- Goto Save As
- Choose
Publish as PDF or XPS
- In the save file dialog click the
"Options" button
- Click the checkbox "Include comments and ink
markup"
- Click "Ok"
- Enter a filename and location
- Click
"Publish
- Forward these files (powerpoint and pdf) to the
presenter.
