Computer algebra software at Sydney Mathematics & Statistics

The following computer algebra packages are available on various School systems:

Magma
This computer algebra system, developed by the Computational Algebra Group in the School, is available on the Linux servers via the command magma .

On-line help for Magma is available.

Maple
There is a 5-user Maple School site licence for Linux. Use the command maple for a command-line interface (help available via "?") or xmaple for a graphics interface (with a help menu). See the manual pages for maple and mint, or the on-line help.

Our licence is for Maple2022, we do not pay yearly maintenance fee for current version.

Mathematica
A University-wide network licence for current version is available for Linux, Windows or Mac. On the Linux servers, use commands math or mathematica.

Both commands math and mathematica may show useless warnings about firejail.

The on-line help in the graphics interface mathematica includes the Mathematica book. WRI provide information about Mathematica.

REDUCE
We have Reduce (PSL version 4829) available, via command reduce on the Linux servers.
